TRAVEL: Thailand, Sukothai

After a short night in Bangkok, we took the train to Phitsanulok. This was the only option by train to go to Sukothai, our destination. A single ticket for one person from Bangkok to Phitsanulok was app. 455 baht per person, which is just a little bit more than 10 euro.

The train ride
We didn’t book our traintickets upfront. We went to the big station one day prior to our travel day and booked them at the ticket desk. Unfortuntely, you can’t reach Sukothai directly by train, you need to take a bus afterwards. The train ride took about 5 hours, and when arriving in Phitsanulok we had to take a tuktuk to the local bus station, to take the bus to Sukothai National Park. The busride was another 2 hours, which is pretty long for a day of traveling. But, the busride was cheap, just 45 baht per person (a little bit more than 1 euro). It was a crappy bus and a very long ride, but we were very pleased when we arrived in Sukothai.

The hotel
Again, we booked the hotel upfront. The long ride from Bangkok to Sukothai was a bit uncomfortable and we decided to take the bus to Chiang Mai in a couple of days instead of the train. We dedicded to go for the Baan Rim Klong Resort. For two nights, we payed 40 euros, that’s 10 euro per person per night, so cheap! Breakfast included. The hotel is a little cute house in a quiet place close to the old city center of Sukothai (and the historical park ofcourse). They also offer bikes for just 50 baht per day (little bit more than 1 euro) We arrived late so our main goal was to get some food and we’ll explore the city the next day.
