TRAVEL: Zuid Afrika, Krugerpark

Hi everyone,

After two nights in Hazyview and discovering the panorama route, we headed to Kruger Park. But first we had to change our rental car for another one. We drove through a pothole (a large hole in the road) during the night and hit the hole very hard: a flat tire and broken rim as a result.

We changed the ford fiesta for a toyota and drove to the Kruger gate, a 30 minute drive from Hazyview. As soon as our vehicle was checked at the gate and we payed our fee we could explore this beautiful nature reserve.

As soon as we entered the park we ran into lots and lots of antilopes. We started to take pictures like crazy but we soon discovered that the antilopes were everywhere. At a maximum speed of 50kms per hour we drove to the north of the park, where our ‘rest camp’ was situated. We read about Olifants (the rest camp) in the lonely planet and decided it would be our restcamp for a night.

Olifants is a beautiful restcamp next to the olifants river: a good place to spot the big 5. You can easily spot the hippos taking a morning bath in the river. You have your own little bungalow which is very simple but good enough for one night. Upon arrival at the restcamp we had an hour to unpack and to get ready for the sunset drive with a ranger.

The sunset drive took about 3 hours and we saw so many animals! And as soon as the sun set, we saw a hyena and her cubs and besides that we had three big lions walking in front of our car! Anyway: enough talking, let me show you the pictures!

Our first eye to eye contact with the wildlife: Antilopes. The very first we saw but by far not the last.

While we drove for 3 hours to our restcamp we saw so many beautiful animals! The amazing thing from Kruger is that you can enter the park with your own vehicle.

Squirrels, in a wildlife reserve? Seriously?

Sunset is the best time to photograph, I hope you love the pictures!

Baby Hyena’s!
